Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix Movie Review

Being a die hard fan of Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling, I thought it would be a shame if I didn’t write a review about the latest flop Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix movie. This movie is the 5th installment of the 7 installment Harry Potter series which ended with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling
which hit the stores this July 21st.
I don’t know how came each installment of Harry Potter series is directed by completely different directors. I’m really suspicious whether they understood the plot or not.
This is also very lately released considering the fact that previous movies are released by one year gaps except Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire which was released 3 years after it’s predecessor. This movie is also released 3 years after it’s predecessor. I think it’s got something to do with the year gaps. Because, every time a Harry Potter movie hits the big screens after 3 years of delay, it seems it changes a lot of the good plot and brings a complete mess of a movie which is not at all the Harry Potter, J.K. Rowling wrote.
I don’t understand why do people change a lot of the original script which was already written and famous. They might argue that some of the happenings in the Books are not as interesting as they’re in the Big Screen. I can agree. But that shouldn’t give an excuse to change the whole lot plot of the original script and write your own script for the Movie. If we wanted a movie that is similar to Harry Potter series, surely we would’ve asked for. What we want rather is a Movie that pictures every aspect of the Original Harry Potter. Surely we fans can argue that the Book is as interesting as it can be in Big Screen too. Except for some minor glitches which definitely need to be changed in the Big Screen, I don’t see any reason for changing the script at all. What they’ve desperately came here with is a complete rewritten script which touches only few facts from the Original Script written by J.K. Rowling.
I can say the Graphics and CGI are improving faster with every Harry Potter installment. But, it’s just becoming a waste of time considering the pointless plot. I’m damn sure that the Director either didn’t read Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix book completely or didn’t understood it. I see hell lot of flaws in the Screen Writing and to my dismay, they’ve even changed some serious plot lines. For example, the person who tells Dolores Umbridge about the Dumbledore Army is NOT Cho Chang as portrayed in the film and it’s actually Cho Chang’s friend Marietta Edgecombe if I knew the book well. This major flaw completely rewrote the basic concept of love braking of Cho Chang and Harry Potter in the Movie (according to the Book, it’s on Hermione Granger and Harry Potter relationship that broke Harry Potter and Cho Chang’s Love, not as portrayed in the Movie). These flaws should easily confuse newcomers and those who didn’t remember the 5th Book completely.
In my opinion, the point of Harry Potter movies are easily the point of helping newcomers understand the Harry Potter series and go to the Book for more information or showing the readers of Harry Potter an visualization of the Book events. None of these points are gathered by Harry Potter directors except for Chris Columbus who directed the first two installments of Harry Potter series. I liked the first two installments very much as they visualized the events of the Books clearly and the visualization is simply superb. Even Richard Harris‘ performance as Professor Albus Dumbledore is excellent and brought the character live. The same character played by Michael Gambon is a complete mess. Albus Dumbledore, if I knew him correctly from the Books, never ran along with holding his Cloaks in his hands and NEVER showed impatience and less of concentration in important events as it’s portrayed by Michael Gambon. The Characters and other aspects remain intact only for the students of Hogwarts who are introduced in the first 2 installments and Rubeus Hagrid and few Teachers who are introduced in the first two installments.
I know J.K. Rowling has earned a huge lot by the Books and doesn’t need the Movies to be a hit for her at all. But, for the Fans like me who are die hard, it is a ultra ignorance of J.K. Rowling that kills us. I know she still has her hold on the Movies if she wanted to. But she isn’t seems to be wanting to change any of these. She just lets them do whatever mess they’re about to do without wondering about the Fans. I know there are few Directors who portrayed even a boring big Novel with interesting stuff in Big Screen and still kept the original plot intact such as my favourite and the great Peter Jackson on The Lord of the Rings series. They’re simply marvelous and even earned many Oscars. It’s no wonder none of the Harry Potter series didn’t won even a single Oscar. Some may argue that Harry Potter series books are big (except for the first 2 books) and that’s why it’s hard to portray them on Big Screen and also that’s the reason why the first 2 installments of the Harry Potter movie series are a success. For them, I would like to advise to read The Lord of the Rings book and watch the three The Lord of the Rings movies that Peter Jackson directed. Every volume (2 Books per Volume of 3 Volumes) of the Lord of the Rings series is twice as huge (at least 1 and half) as the Harry Potter series books and yet Peter Jackson managed to bring the charm in just 3 hours each. For me, that’s Directing. Even he brought the good old King Kong marvelously live as none of the predecessors did. So, these are all just excuses.
I think the professionalism should be applied to the Harry Potter series movies and the Directors should stop treating Harry Potter series as Horror Movies (if you see the 4th and 5th installment movies, you will understand what I mean by treating it as Horror Movies). At least, I hope Chris Columbus returns to do the Harry Potter series. If my expectations aren’t huge, I hope Peter Jackson to do the Harry Potter series from the beginning even though they’re already filmed as he did the King Kong movie which was already taken 4 times previously.

If anyone of you is a Web Developer you should have certainly experienced a dreadful experience with the Client-Side Scripting languages such as JavaScript, VBScript and JScript. All these scripting languages are NOT actually independent languages. They’re merely a integrated version of the Browser you’re using and also varies in functions, objects and some syntax from browser to browser. But I’m not talking about that dreadful thing which I think is impossible to solve until every browser copes up with W3C Standards and design Scripting Languages that share the same functions and objects everywhere. But I’m talking about a more dreadful thing, Debugging! You all knew very well (if you’re a software developer) what Debugging means and why it’s so important.
