Amazing Google Reader!

Print This Post Print This Post

Google Reader LogoI’ve been using RSS Bandit for a long time now and I’ve never been very accustomed with Web Based readers. But recently one of my friend suggested Google Reader very much so I though I could do a try.

First of all, Google Reader, didn’t accepted my OPML file which I exported from RSS Bandit. So, I tried manually adding some of the RSS feeds and had a go. It’s really awesome. :)
Google seems to be making very good use of AJAX. Which really made their Web Based reader a pleasant experience.

I strongly recommend those of you guys who think a Web Reader is not good to see Google Reader.

Image dimensions are not shown in the Status Bar of Windows Explorer

Print This Post Print This Post

This is the recent problem I had with Windows XP. My system Windows Explorer was NOT showing image dimensions in the Windows Explorer. Then, I’ve almost wasted 4 hours in searching internet and found no solutions. At last, by combining various solutions I had from Google Groups, I’ve been able to solve the problem. If any one of you face the same problem, do the following:

  1. Start -> Run -> Type: regsvr32 shimgvw.dll
  2. If this is NOT fixing the problem, do the following:
  3. Start -> Run -> RegEdit
  4. Navigate to: My Computer\KHEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\ShellEx\ColumnHeaders
  5. If there is NO key with this name: {24F14F01-7B1C-11d1-838f-0000F80461CF}, create it.
  6. Close RegEdit

Now, your problem will be solved.

DreamHost LogoHi Everybody,

I’ve been proud customer of DreamHost Web Hosters. They’re incredible. All my domains are hosted with them only. They’re crazy little geniuses. And also, they’re the highly friendly ones.

Don’t treat this blog post as an Advertisement to them. I’m just sharing my joyous journey I had with them for the past ONE YEAR with you all.

And, please let us all stand together to wish the people at DreamHost for their pleasant “9TH BIRTHDAY”.

I wish them a GREAT YEAR this time and every time for ever.

They’ve given one amazing gift to us, their customers, by surprising us all by upgrading our hosting and bandwidth limit to a whopping 100% increase. That’s really awesome. Actually, so far I know, they’re the ONE and ONLY web hosting providers who increase their Disk Space and Bandwidth allotted to us by some percentage every week. But this is really whopping increase.

To tell you the secret, I’ve signed up for 20 GB space and 1 TB Bandwidth and got up to last month about 22 GB space and 1.02 TB Bandwidth. But this month, they increased it dramatically by 198 GB Disk Space and 2 TB Bandwidth. That’s amazing. Isn’t it guys? For me, it’s the GREATEST Birthday gift they can give to anyone.

A BIG THANKS TO ALL THOSE GUYS IN DREAMHOST. I LOVE THEM AND I KEEP LOVING THEM.

WordPress Blogging Made Easy!

Print This Post Print This Post

WordPress LogoWow man. When I finished entering my previous post Google Firefox Extensions, the major disappointment for me is that the Blogger Web Comments extension from Google doesn’t supports my Own Hosted WordPress. But then, I found one EXCELLENT extension called Performancing. It really is performance for any Blogger who use WordPress.

First of all, visit the Performancing Official Website for more information. This is an entire Online Service provided for the benefit of bloggers. I was so thrilled by this that I even put a logo of them in my Footer (of this Blog) to show my support to them. They’re really EXCELLENT. Their service is actually a wide variety of tools supporting the Blogging community.

The main extension is the key thing. It installs a small icon in the Status bar showing a Note Pad icon. Just click on this icon and voila, you’ll immediate have access to your Blog. Now, you can post blog entries, check the statistics, visit Bookmarks, Track page information via Technorati and a lot more in a simple-yet-powerful split window display. The WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor inside this extension works excellent and enables ease of use for blogging. It further amazed me by showing the Blogs List, Categories, History and Notes in right side small panel which is synchronized with my Blogging system. It’s really cool.

All you need to do is, install this extension, configure your Blog accounts (it supports a wide variety of blogging systems including WordPress). That’s all, you’re ready to rapidBlog (rapidly write blog entries)

Happy Independence Day!

Hey my dear INDIANS!!!

It’s celebration time for us….

Indian Flag

WISH YOU ALL A VERY HAPPY 60th INDEPENDENCE DAY

Our Mother gets 60 years old after getting her hand cups released. In this proud occation, we MUST remember the ones who made it possible for us.

Mahathma Gandhiji: The one who really made Freedom Dream a reality. The one who introduced Ahimsa to the world. The one who is the proud jewel of INDIA.

Nethaji Subash Chandra Bose: I don’t know how many out there still remember him. But he is the one who made Independence nearly possible. He got the first Indian National Army (INA) and he even captured some of the British controlled places in North India. His death is still a mystery. But he is the one who fought back really the way our King’s in old days did.

Mangal Pandey: The one who started Freedom Struggle the headstart in North India. Not much of his history is know till now. But he has served in British Army and ended up killing Indians which made him struggle for Freedom.

Veerapandiya Katta Bomman: The one who started Freedom Struggle the headstart in South India. He is the real king of mighty. Who never rested until he’s hanged by the British. His fort is such a powerful one even for British Canons.

There are more of them. But all we need is, remember them in this glorious day.

See our President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s Address to the Nation on 60th Independence Day

Using Tamil in Unicode Supported Applications

Print This Post Print This Post

I don’t know how many of you folks out there know about Unicode.

Unicode is a Encoding technique with 64 bits of Character sets (allowing upto 18446744073709551616 characters possibility). It allows a lot of languages to be used by the same encoding without the need to switch between encodings. Find more on Unicode at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unicode

Now, coming back, most of the OSes today support Unicode natively. If you use Windows XP, then you can immediately know that it supports Unicode natively. But if you’re using any other OSes before Windows XP, you can’t just use this. To setup Unicode in Windows XP, follow the below steps:

  1. Go to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Regional and Language Options
  2. Click on the Languages Tab
  3. Click on the Check Box in the Install files for East Asian Languages and click OK
  4. Windows will ask you to insert the OS CD-ROM. Insert it or select a backup location
  5. Restart the System

Tamil Typewriting has so far evolved in the following means:

  1. Tamil Manual Typewriter (the Oldest but Safest Way)
  2. Tamilnet99 Keyboard (the Tamil Nadu Government authorised Keyboard - 1999)
  3. TAM and TAB (the Tamil Nadu Government authorised Keyboard Schemes)
  4. Anjal Typewriter (the Ultimate Tamil Phonetics Keyboard)

Of all the types specified above, the Tamil Manual Typewriter and Anjal Typewriter are the most commonly used ones. I personally prefer Tamil Manual Typewriter as it enables high faster typing and in safer means (that is, it will allow you to ensure that what you’re typing is right). But the Anjal Typewriter is the far easiest one. It will allow you to type அம்மா by just typing Ammaa. It’s as simple as that.

So, decide your keyboard first, then follow the below steps:

If you prefer Tamil Manual Keyboard, follow the steps below:

The Tamil Manual Keyboard is still followed by a font called Bamini. The layout of this keyboard will be as shown in the following picture:

Bamini Keyboard
  1. For converting your keyboard strokes to Unicode characters, you need a Keyboard Driver Management software. For Tamilans, it has been made easy by an Open Source development called eKalappai which is based on the International Keyboard Driver Management software KeyMan.
  2. Download the eKalappai for Bamini Keyboard at: http://www.thamizha.com/downloads/ekalappai20b_bamini.zip
  3. Extract the zip file using WinZip or WinRAR.
  4. Install the Thamizha! eKalappai 2.0
  5. You will now see a small icon in the System Tray with a little ‘k’ on it. Click on this icon to get the number of keyboards installed. Typically it will be, Suratha - Bamini2Tscii (TASCII - Tamil Standard Code for Information Interchange. Not all softwares support this) and Suratha - BaminiUni (Unicode version) with short cuts like Alt + 2 and Alt + 3.
  6. Now, open any Text editor (Notepad, Yahoo Messenger, Google Talk, MSN, etc…) and press the short cut key Alt + 3 to get Bamini to Unicode converter. Now, start typing, you will see the Tamil Letters. You can type English by just pressing Alt + 1 (No Keyboards). The default font for Tamil is Latha. You can change it by going to Internet Explorer -> Tools -> Options -> Fonts -> Language Script (Tamil) -> and the Font you have. You can download more Unicode Tamil fonts (and also TSCII fonts) at: http://www.tamil.net/tscii/tools.html
  7. Using this technique you can send Tamil language letters to anybody who’s having supported OSes and Unicode supported applications.

If you prefer Tamil Anjal Keyboard, follow the steps below:

Anjal Keyboard
  1. Follow the same steps as above. But in Step 3, download Anjal Keyboard at: http://www.thamizha.com/downloads/ekalappai20b_anjal.zip
  2. As the provided Anjal Keyboard is not functioning well for Unicode, you need to install the special Unicode Keyboard once you installed the above file. This special Unicode Keyboard can be downloaded from: http://www.thamizha.com/downloads/NewUniTamil.zip
  3. Other operation instructions are same as above.

If you prefer Tamilnet99 Keyboard, follow the steps below:

Tamil99 Keyboard
  1. Follow the same steps as above. But in Step 3, download Tamilnet99 Keyboard at: http://www.thamizha.com/downloads/ekalappai20b_tnet99.zip
